In 2009 the most important
intervention on property in Catalonia in recent years
The new project that will host the historic grounds of Sant Pau
is presented: the International Centre for the
Mediterranean
This morning, during the opening ceremony chaired by the Minister
of Health, Marina Geli, by the cardinal archbishop of Barcelona,
and by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, the new project that
will host the historic grounds of Sant Pau was presented.
The transfer of hospital activity of Sant Pau to the new hospital
next June will enable the rehabilitation of the Art déco
historic building of Lluís Domènech i Montaner that
was declared Common Heritage of Mankind in 1997.
The Molt Il·lustre Administració (MIA) is the
governing body of the Private Foundation of the Hospital de la
Santa Creu i Sant Pau, which is the owner of the historic grounds.
The MIA, equally formed by the Cathedral Chapter, Barcelona Town
Hall and the Government of Catalonia, has started actions to foster
the rehabilitation of the Art deco historic building and develop a
new project with the objective of promoting the international side
of the city in our region, the Mediterranean, of which Barcelona
wishes to become the capital and a focal point.
In this first phase of the rehabilitation of the historic grounds
of Sant Pau M€26.4 will be invested in executive projects,
dismantling, and works.
